In our Chess Talents series, we present 9-year-old Norbert Nagy (Norbi), one of Hungary’s youngest stars, under-8 and under-10 Hungarian champion and winner of the Hungarian Chess Federation and LearningChess Chess Olympiad Challenge.
Below are the words of his coach Péter Gál:
I started working with Norbi in February 2023 as his first coach. We successfully developed the minimal basics he had learned in the school chess club with LearningChess lessons and tactical puzzles.
As a result of our preparation, five months (!) later, in June 2023, Norbi qualified for the final ten of the under-8 age group championship, where he became Hungarian champion with 8.5 points from 9 games and a 3-point advantage (!).
While many coaches in this age group had already “stuffed” their players with openings, my main concept was making the pupil strong in tactics. For this, the tactical puzzles of LearningChess were perfect because not only could you practice the motifs thematically, but what is unique about them is that you have to find the right solution to several opponents’ responses in one position. During these months, Norbi has already solved thousands of tactical puzzles.
He was only nine years old when we went through the complete LearningChess curriculum. Following that, in April 2024, he won the Hungarian under-10 championship. He enhanced his under-8 championship result by defending his Hungarian championship title with 9 out of 9 points (100% score)!
Norbi is a very talented and hard-working kid with an excellent memory and great enthusiasm. In addition to his coaching guidance, the LearningChess online system has contributed greatly to his victories.
It is not surprising that Norbi won the Hungarian Chess Federation and LearningChess 2024 Chess Olympiad Challenge. The competition involved solving tactical puzzles with the aim of winning all the possible medals. With incredible enthusiasm and hard work, Norbi solved hundreds of puzzles in the first few days, setting a theoretical record. The organizers were amazed and applauded Norbi’s performance, which eventually won him the competition. Of course, if you know Norbi’s previous results and that he had looked at a lot of puzzles before, everything becomes clear.
By the way, my team performed very well in the Chess Olympiad Challenge. Noel Gálosi won the silver medal, and Nóra Tédió was in ninth place. Seven of my students were in the top 60, so I also earned the imaginary title of the most successful coach.
Finally, I highly recommend the LearningChess system to all chess-playing children! I work with the programme in school groups and with private pupils, and the young people love it.

SAKKTEHETSÉGEK – NAGY NORBI
Sakktehetségek sorozatunkban bemutatjuk a 9 éves Nagy Norbit, Magyarország egyik legfiatalabb kiválóságát, U8-as és U10-es magyar bajnokot, valamint a Magyar Sakkszövetség és a LearningChess Sakkolimpia Kihívásának győztesét.
Az alábbiakban nevelőedzője, Gál Péter szavait tolmácsoljuk:
2023 februárjában kezdtem Norbival együtt dolgozni, első edzőjeként. Az iskolai sakk szakkörben szerzett minimális alapokat a LearningChess leckéivel és taktikai fejtörőivel fejlesztettük tovább, nagy sikerrel.
A végeredmény az lett, hogy 2023 júniusában, azaz öt hónap (!) múlva Norbi bejutott a 8 éven aluliak korcsoportos bajnokságának tízes döntőjébe, ahol 9 partiból 8,5 ponttal, 3 pont előnnyel (!) magyar bajnok lett.
Míg több edző ebben a korosztályban már megnyitásokkal “tömte” játékosait, addig az én legfőbb koncepcióm az volt, hogy taktikában legyen igazán erős a tanítvány. Ehhez pedig tökéletesek voltak a LearningChess taktikai fejtörői, mert nemcsak tematikusan lehetett gyakoroltatni a motívumokat, hanem ami egyedi benne, hogy egy állásban az ellenfél több válaszlépésére is meg kell találni a jó megoldást. Norbi már ezekben a hónapókban több ezer taktikai fejtőröt oldott meg.
Miután Norbival a teljes LearningChess tananyagot átvettem, 2024 áprilisában, 9 évesen megnyerte a 10 éven aluliak magyar bajnokságát. Az U8-as bajnoki eredményére rátett még egy lapáttal, mert 9-ből 9 ponttal, azaz százszázalékos eredménnyel védte meg magyar bajnoki címét! (Ebben már edző kollégám, Taskovits István szerepe is jelentős volt.)
Norbi egy nagyon tehetséges és szorgalmas gyerek, kiváló memóriával és hatalmas lelkesedéssel. Győzelmeihez pedig nagymértékben hozzájárult az edzői iránymutatáson felül a LearningChess online rendszere.
Ezek után már nem meglepő, hogy Norbi nyerte meg a Magyar Sakkszövetség és a LearningChess 2024-es Sakkolimpia Kihívását. A versenyben taktikai fejtörőket kellett megoldani, cél az összes érem megszerzése volt. Hihetetlen lelkesedéssel és munkabírással Norbi már az első napokban megoldott sokszáz fejtörőt, amivel elméleti rekordot állított fel. A szervezők csodálkozva és elismeréssel fogadták az teljesítményt, amivel végül Norbi megnyerte a versenyt. Persze ha ismerjük Norbi korábbi eredményeit, és hogy korábban már rengeteg fejtörőt nézett át, már minden érthetővé válik.
Egyébként a Sakkolimpia Kihívásban nemcsak az első helyezett, Nagy Norbert az én tanítványom, hanem a második Gálosi Noel, és a kilencedik, Tédió Nóra is. Az első 60-ban pedig összesen 7 tanítványom került be, így a képzeletbeli legeredményesebb edző címet is sikerült kiérdemelnem.
Végül nagy szeretettel ajánlom a LearningChess rendszerét minden sakkozó gyermeknek! Jómagam is dolgozom a programmal iskolai szakkörökben és magántanítványokkal, nagyon szeretik a fiatalok.
