45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest 2024: Record-breaking Participation Expected

The 45th Chess Olympiad will be held in Budapest from September 11 to 22, 2024.

The Chess Olympiad is a biennial international chess tournament organized by FIDE and the local, currently the Hungarian Chess Federation. It brings together teams from countries around the world to compete in a prestigious and highly competitive event.

The organizers expect a record number of participating countries: 198 in the open and 184 in the women’s sections, for a total of two thousand players.

The significance of the Chess Olympiad lies in its role as one of the most important global chess tournaments, showcasing the talent of the best players from various nations. It has been held since 1927, and has grown in scale and prestige over the decades.

The 45th Chess Olympiad, following a rich tradition, would continue this legacy, highlighting the evolution of the game and the increasing global interest in chess. Each Olympiad not only provides a platform for competition but also fosters international camaraderie and cultural exchange among participants. The event has historically been a stage for both legendary matchups and the rise of new chess stars, reflecting the dynamic nature of the sport.
