In the modern world, various countries using chess as an educational tool. World Chess Federation (FIDE) also has a special commission to promote chess in education. Chess has numerous benefits related to education. Chess improves IQ, problem-solving skills, spatial skills, memory, exercise both sides of the brain, creativity, concentration planning and foresight . . .

In Sri Lanka, there are over 10,000 schools. But, chess has spread in nearly 1,000 schools only. The main reasons are less awareness about chess and the lack of chess coaches.

With these Sinhala Language books ‘Learning Chess Student Workbook’ and ‘Learning Chess Teacher Handbook’, I’m hoping to spread the game to many schools as possible. I hope the Teacher’s Handbook will benefit the new coaches and teachers willing to join in this task.

The Student’s Workbook has created as a book that can be used by schoolchildren as young as 7 years to learn chess from the beginning in a structured way with a help of a teacher or a chess coach.

These books aim to reach out to as many children as possible on the island for chess school benefits. With these books, I’m hoping to work with organizations willing to take my assistance in future programs that introduce chess to schools.

I hope that chess will produce a generation of children who can think and make decisions with proper logical intellect.
