You can play different chess variants, practice giving mate, and play chess minigames. For example, if you set WHITE to computer and BLACK to human, you can play against the computer with black. Loser&#8217;s chess has several variants. The traditional one, which is also greatly preferred by most players, follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All the rules of regular chess apply, with the following exceptions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Capturing is compulsory.<\/li><li>The king plays no special role &#8211; it can be taken, put, or left &#8216;en prise&#8217;.<\/li><li>Pawns can promote to the king.<\/li><li>The player wins if he cannot move, i.e., he has no pieces left, or his pieces are stalemated.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"play_chess_G3\"><strong>Progressive Chess (Scottish version)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/learningchess.net\/chessboards\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/learningchess.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Game_Progressive-Chess.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2687\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/learningchess.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Game_Progressive-Chess.jpg 613w, https:\/\/learningchess.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Game_Progressive-Chess-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/learningchess.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Game_Progressive-Chess-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The special feature in this chess variant is that the number of moves increases each turn. The game starts with White making one move. Then Black makes two consecutive moves, White replies with three, Black makes four, etc. The purpose is the same as in regular chess, giving checkmate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Otherwise, all the rules of regular chess apply, with the following exceptions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A check must be escaped from on the first move of a series. If this cannot be done, it is checkmate, and the game is lost.<\/li><li>En passant captures of pawns are allowed if the pawn in question moved two squares in one move, but no further, at some point during the last turn, but the capture must be made on the first move of a series.<\/li><li>If ten consecutive turns are played with no captures and no pawn moves, the game has declared a draw unless one of the players can force checkmate. Often minigames do not even include kings, and therefore the rules on how to win are very different from a full game of chess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The minigames have simpler rules. Pieces move the same as they do in chess, but some special rules, such as promotion, en-passant, stalemate, etc., are excluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In chess, you win by checkmate, whereas in minigames, you might have to get a pawn to the other side or capture all of your opponent&#8217;s pieces to win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We developed a unique engine to play minigames on the LearningChess site.
